Policy & Research
The work that STEP carries out within the Community Support and Development fields gives it a unique position to be able to research needs, trends and issues first-hand at grassroots level.
This means that we are in a strong position to feed into the drafting of policies and also the influencing of those decision-makers forming policy frameworks in areas such as housing, advice, immigration, benefits and family support.
It is the strongly held view of the STEP organisation that policymaking needs to be more than just having specific policies for particular contexts.
To ensure that these policies are more appropriate for their aims, strong, real-world evidence and data is required to make the required changes to policies and their implementation, and to help better reflect the needs of the people the policies are intended support.
